Brooke Zerby
Dispatcher, Copart Graham

When did you start taking courses and when will they be complete?

I started taking classes fall of 2014. I took a few years off to work and have been back at it for two and a half years online. I should be done in fall 2020.

What are you studying and why did you choose this?

I am studying business management at Oregon State University. I chose this because I love to work with people. I like to have challenges thrown my way and in a management position, there are always curveballs thrown at you.

Has it changed anything for your work or personal life so far?

So far not much has changed, I am just very busy. Overall, I enjoy it.

Overall, what is it like balancing work and school?

It is tough but being able to take online classes makes it a lot easier. I am looking forward to only working though, to be able to come home and enjoy time with family instead of coming home to do homework!

Jarrod Gadd
Regional Manager

When did you start taking courses and when will they be complete?

I began taking courses in the spring of 2019 and I am expected to finish my program spring of 2022.

What are you studying and why did you choose this?

I am pursuing a MBA.  The MBA program at ECU is all encompassing in respect to business studies. There are finance classes, management classes, marketing classes, etc. I chose the MBA program first to challenge myself, so for me the reward is intrinsic. Career growth or looking good on a resume are important but are secondary factors in my motivation.

Has it changed anything for your work or personal life so far?

I spend more time organizing my day around school therefore there is less time with friends and family. Personal sacrifices aside, I find that the program is extremely relevant to the work I am doing. That relevance makes the learning easier as there are numerous times where I have an “Ah Ha!” moment as I have dealt with a situation that correlates to my learning.

Overall, what is it like balancing work and school?

There is no getting around it, it is difficult at times. The balancing act has required a great deal of discipline and sacrifice in all areas of my loved one and I’s lives. You really need to take an honest look and ask yourself why are going back to school, what are you working towards? Commitment, discipline, and sacrifice are three important things to do when pursing this program.
