7 Ways to Beat the Heat This Summer

With summer just around the corner and temperatures rising, it’s important to protect yourself from harmful UV rays and high temperatures. It’s unsafe to be in direct sunlight for extended periods of time and prolonged sun exposure can result in sunburn, premature aging and heat exhaustion.

Here are 7 ways to beat the heat this summer.

Avoid Direct Sunlight When Possible

If you have the option of sitting in direct sunlight or shade, choose the shade. Avoid UV rays as much as possible. However, if you are in the sun, make sure to take extra precautions.

Applying sunscreen is the most vital step to protecting yourself against the sun. Sunscreen can expire after 6 months. So, before you apply, check the expiration date.

First, apply sunscreen to all exposed parts of your body. Then, wait 30 minutes for the sunscreen to dry before exposing yourself to the sun. Sunscreen below SPF 15 won’t block enough UV rays and anything over 30 SPF won’t protect much more. Reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours and continue to protect your skin throughout the day.

If sunscreen isn’t up your alley, the best way to avoid the sun is by umbrella or hat.

Carry a Water Bottle

If you’re going to beat this heat, you must hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. We’ll say it again: hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Dehydration is very serious and could result in dizziness, nausea, and even heat stroke.H2O not only amazing great but it’s also great for you  Water is a great way to cool down your body from the inside out. Dress for the Season

Did you know that there are brands that make sun-protective clothing? Take extra precautions this summer and check out some clothing with SPF built into the fabric.

It is hot outside so don’t wear heavy clothing or layers. Keep the fabrics light so you stay as cool as possible. Also, try to avoid dark colors as it attracts UV rays.

Crank the A/C

A/C is your best friend this summer and it’s the best way to prevent heat exhaustion. If you’re outside most of the day, take periodic breaks to cool down and recharge.

Get a Fan

It is always good to have one of these wherever you go. They are a great way to get cool without going inside or fully dunking yourself in water. Check out these portable fans that plug into your smartphone.

Freeze Towels

Stick some damp towels in the freezer. After a long day outside, pull the frozen towel from the freezer and place it on your neck. You’ll cool down instantly.

Enjoy your summer and stay cool!
