Minute Monday: Did You Make the Most of Your Sunday?
No one wants the weekend to end, right? Whether you spent the weekend relaxing or going on adventures, getting back into the swing of work can be tough.
Here’s some tips and tricks on how to make the most of your Sundays, and simultaneously make your upcoming Monday, and week, less stressful and more productive.
You might feel the urge to stay in bed late on Sunday mornings to catch up on sleep. But the truth is, you can’t really catch up on missed snooze hours by sleeping in late on the weekends. Oversleeping can make you feel more tired and groggy during the day and the next morning. Try waking up at a realistic time on Sundays. You don’t need to wake up as early as you do for work, but getting up early will make it easier to get up on Monday. When you do wake up, eat breakfast, shower and get ready for the day. This will set you up for a productive Sunday and therefore a productive week.
There are countless studies that show exercise reduces stress, improves happiness and even makes you more focused and productive at work. The toughest part about working out is getting started. The best way to overcome this is to do something simple such as walking or jogging. It may seem like work at first, but once you get started you won’t want to stop (runner’s high is a real thing). In the end, it will help you sleep better and get you ready to take on Monday and the upcoming week.
Get Out of the House
Most of us are guilty of having a ‘lazy’ Sunday every now and then. Spending the day binge-watching Netflix or football on the couch has almost become a national epidemic, but it doesn’t have to be this way! Try getting out of the house on Sundays. Go get brunch or watch football at a bar with friends. Or even better yet, go enjoy the great outdoors! Whether it’s throwing the frisbee at a park or going on a hike, just being outside will do wonders for your general happiness. Enjoying your Sunday outside the house should leave you re-energized and ready to take on the work week ahead.
Plan for Monday Morning and the Week Ahead
Before you go to bed Sunday night, make sure you’re organized and ready for the week ahead. Simply laying out your clothes for Monday can make your morning routine easier and keep you from rushing out the door for work.
Spend your Sunday knocking out any chores/errands you need to do like laundry or grocery shopping. Put together any other to-do lists for the week so nothing can blindside you on Monday. The more organized you are, the easier your Monday and rest of the week will be!
