The IT Department at Copart is doing big things to develop and encourage creative talent, and hold events that offer great networking and a time to meet other professionals. Recently, the IT department hosted a ReactJS Meetup at the Dallas Headquarters as well as hosted their own hackathon that included students from the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD).
The ReactJS Meetup had a great turnout overall and lasted about two hours. Talent from around Dallas came together to network and socialize. Copart provided pizza and sodas as well as Copart swag. This is the first of many to come.
Corporate recruiter Mike Hewitt comments, “It was really great to host the ReactJS meetup at Copart and so cool to see those ‘coder-types’ armed with laptops eager for a hands-on learning experience!” The evening ended with even more enthusiasm and interest in future events.
The ReactJS Meetup featured Emmanuel Morales, a Front-End Developer/ Senior Consultant at Headspring. Emmanuel led the group in putting together a small app to better understand how React handles data.
The IT Hackathon also proved to be a great success in stimulating new ideas and encouraging collaborative teamwork. Both the IT department and students from UTD participated in the challenge. One of the Hackathon’s main goals was to foster an environment that develops new tools, processes and programs for a better business. The winners of the Hackathon are:
- First place: Nick, Nishanth and Kaushal: Raspberry Pi—Meeting Room Agenda
- Second place: Harsh, Vaishali and Xiaofeng: Enhanced IDS—Document Type
- Tied for Third place: Sumit, Prabhu and Sushmitha: Chrome Extension—Auction Recommendation; Sri Harsha, Keerthi, Manoj and Abhishek: Github Audit
