Copart is joining the Movember Foundation in the battle to “change the face of men’s health.”
In the month of November, participants (Mo Bros) take on the challenge of growing their facial hair and become the face of awareness for men’s health issues. Women can also participate by becoming Mo Sistas and pledging to exercise for the 30 days of the month.
As one of the leading online vehicle auction companies, Copart took the lead to create the Copart Mopart Network for their employees to contribute to the foundation and further raise awareness about men’s health issues.
Business Support Specialist Dillon Allan began the movement within Copart last year with a few people participating. Allan saw this as an opportunity to improve the health of the many men employed at the company. This year it has snowballed into a company-wide movement. Copart is encouraging 350 employees at its corporate headquarters and all of the employees in more than 160 yards across the U.S. to participate in the movement.
“A lot of men have the ‘men are tough’ mentality and don’t go to the doctor as much,” said Allan. “Men don’t have these conversations, and that’s why this is important. It starts those conversations.”
The Movember Foundation was formed in 2003 by Travis Garone and Luke Slattery in Melbourne, Australia. The two friends were inspired by the mustache’s ability to spark conversation. They used this quality to form conversations and awareness for men’s health issues.
“We’re about coming together for a good cause and having fun,” said Internal/External Communications Manager Lindsay Williams. “We’re strong, we’re united and we believe in walking the walk, or in this case growing the ‘stache,’ when it comes to giving back.”
The Movember Foundation currently has 20 men’s health partners in 21 countries and has founded more than 1,000 projects. One of these projects included research by the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center that resulted in the identification of more than 25 different kinds of prostate cancer.
Registration to participate in Movember is open until Nov. 14, 2015, and donations will be accepted until the end of November.
