Title: Senior Art Director
Hometown: San Diego, CA
Years working with Copart: 2.75
What brought you into the field you are working in?
I started out as a Business major. It was interesting, but I didn’t see myself making a career out of it. While taking courses, I decided to take two extra curricular classes that were related to Marketing and Advertising; graphic design and communication arts. I knew then my passion. I still graduated with a minor in Marketing, which comes in handy quite often.
What’s your favorite part about working at Copart?
When I began with Copart they were in the beginning stages of re-branding. I’ve been able to help bring it to life, and keep it consistent (I thrive in the Corporate environment). The Team and Company are fairly lenient in letting me come up with creative ways to promote the brand. It also helps that Copart is in the automotive industry. We get to see some pretty sweet rides.
You’re stuck in an elevator- name three famous people (dead/alive) you would want to be stuck with:
William Harley and the Davidson brothers
What career advice would you give someone that is starting off in your field?
TAKE DESIGN COURSES! Poor design is easy to spot. Really easy. You may be able to teach yourself Photoshop, but unless you have God given talent in art and design (of which I did not), don’t fool yourself. If willing, shoulder surf on a seasoned designer. It’s a great way to learn basic design concepts and how the software is used.
What is your favorite memory at Copart?
Our end of fiscal year department parties. It’s a long year of goal driven priorities. We get to blow off some steam at places like Top Golf, or rent a few private bowling lanes. Then the competition starts!
How does your work help Copart buyers, sellers or the industry as a whole?
I make stuff look good for Copart and all associated brands! For example, one day it’s creating print ads and posters focusing on our new app. Next it’s merchandising on social sites and Copart.com promoting the influx of vehicles we just received due to Mother Nature’s wrath. Then I may be collaborating with our development team on some user experience comps for the website. It’s about keeping the Member informed and helping them complete the task at hand as easily as possible. All while generating some sweet… sweet design.
If applicable, what college did you attend?
California State University Long Beach
What is one of your bucket list items?
Visit the Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland. I need to see the Apprentice Column in person. Look it up. It’s beauty and story is fascinating. Luckily I’m going in a couple months!
What are you binge watching right now?
Foo Fighters Sonic Highways
Favorite sports team: San Diego Chargers (Although I will never forgive them letting Drew Brees go)
Favorite vehicle: 1970 Pontiac Firebird
What is one interesting fact about you? I’ve done the Limbo in Mexico, 140 feet under water, with a starfish on my head.
